About the Namesake
Alex Sidorowicz was the Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communications at Towson University when he was killed in a car accident returning from a university conference at the Wye Plantation on Maryland's Eastern Shore on December 7, 1996.
Everyone who knew him spoke of his "passion for life" and that he lived life to the fullest. A musician and composer by profession, he embraced all the arts. Although a full-time administrator for the last fifteen years of his life, he remained an active composer and performer, and had recently added the performance of modern dance and dance improvisation to his long list of passions. He was an avid motorcyclist, gourmet cook, nature lover and bird watcher, and a loving husband, stepfather and grandfather to his beloved family.
The Recipients
The annual scholarship of $500.00 rotates among the five departments in the college. The first award, given in 1997, went to a Dance major, 1998 to a Mass Communications student, 1999 to a Music student, 2000 will be to Theater, and 2001 to Art.
The Benefactors
Because of his strong belief that students were the most important element of a university, his wife, family, and many friends established this scholarship in his memory.
